Faculty of Science, University of Manitoba

For over 140 years, the University of Manitoba has been recognized as Manitoba’s premier university – shaping our leaders, enhancing our community and conducting world-class research. As Manitoba’s largest, most comprehensive and only research-intensive post-secondary institution, our researchers are making contributions that have changed the lives of people around the world.

Researchers at the Faculty of Science are currently leading the way to expand our knowledge and create the breakthroughs of tomorrow. They are growing healthier, heartier crops; developing new nano-inspired materials; designing pharmaceuticals to cure disease; mining big data for novel solutions; keeping our water clean and pure; developing robots to assist people and save lives. Our home is Manitoba but our impact is global.

We have a history of excellence in Discovery Science and Applied Science, which is exemplified by our Canada Research Chairs, and Manitoba Health Chairs – the country’s top experts and internationally recognized members in their fields. Our Distinguished professors are award-winning scientists, who have received: NSERC Awards, Brockhouse Canada Prizes, Ernest C. Manning Awards, American Physical Society Fellowships, and Killiam Awards, to name but a few.

The Faculty of Science is home to Centre for Oil & Gas Research and Development (COGRaD), and the Manitoba Institute for New Materials, and we are a partner in several other remote research centres, institutes and shared facilities that foster collaborative research and scholarship locally, nationally and internationally.
