Nancy Kartsonas

Nancy is the counselling department head at Eric Hamber Secondary School and she has twenty-two  years experience as a high school counselllor and thirty- two years as a teacher in the Vancouver area.  She recently completed working with two classes of grade twelves and she is now working as the grade nine counsellor at Eric Hamber Secondary.  Her students regularily receive multiple admission and scholarship offers from around the world.  She hosted the CUE (Canadian Universities Event) for the past three years and hosted the Ivy League Universities in 2016.  In 2018, Nancy attended the international counsellors conference at St. Andrew's University in Scotland to tour the newly completed medical school and to learn more about options for Canadian residents.  She has been invited to Oxford University this year and in past years has been a volunteer at the NCAIC University Events as UK and US admissions advisor.  Many prestigious universities across North America have regular communication with her and are seeking students from her school for admission.

Nancy has worked with many domestic and international students seeking high level admission in Canadian, American and UK schools.  She has been a member for seventeen years of the College Board and hosts the PSAT (Practice SAT) exam at her school for students in the lower mainland who are interested in exploring their options for US admission.  She has assisted students in the areas of academic advising, course planning, finding volunteer work and suitable leadership opportunities.  Nancy can also assist students to apply for scholarships to help fund their university studies.

Nancy holds a Masters in Education from UBC in educational leadership, and a Critical Incident Debriefing from the Justice Institute of BC.   She is the parent of  teenage twin daughters in grade eleven and a son who is nineteen.   In addition to her role as a counsellor, Nancy was a member of the VSB Critical Incident Team for fourteen years and she worked in the foster care system for two years.

Nancy and her husband were homestay parents for seventeen years.  They lived and assisted many international students to learn English, adjust to Canada and reach their goals of entering university in Canada.  

Nancy is an educational consultant and tutor working in the west side of Vancouver.  She is a specialist with gifted, highly gifted, learning disabled and students on the ASD spectrum.  She is available to work remotely with students from outside the Vancouver area who are seeking an advising specialist.
