Nickel POCUS

Sudbury is the home base of Canada’s national emergency ultrasound courses (basic and advanced) for doctors. The Emergency Department Echo (EDE, pronounced “Eddie”) family of courses has been taught almost 1000 times to approximately 18,000 Canadian and international physicians, as well as nurses and paramedics. Its use has become the standard of care in large trauma centres, remote settings, and everywhere in between. It has even been used in Canadian forces combat units in Afghanistan.

We are hosting an ultrasound training “Bootcamp” for emergency physicians in Sudbury, Ontario on the weekend of October 5 - 6, 2019. We need real people for the physicians to practice on. Each scanning session pays $50 in cash. The scanning sessions are typically scheduled for 2-3 hours. . The ultrasound scan is like those done for pregnant women and involves no harmful radiation.

Do not be confused by the use of the term "model", we need real people to practice on. So, we are looking for models of all shapes, sizes and ages  It is easier to scan thinner people and tougher to scan people who are more heavy set. This is why we are requesting that thinner people sign up for the first half of the day on the Saturday and that heavier set people sign up for the 2nd half of the day on Saturday as well as any time on Sunday. As the doctors skills improve over the course of the 2-day Bootcamp, they need to learn how to scan more challenging cases.

You will be scanned over the chest, back, and abdomen. The participants of the Bootcamp will be looking at the heart, lungs, and  large veins. Loose, comfortable clothing, such as a sports top and shorts are recommended. Towels will be provided.

Thank you for your support in helping our physicians learn a valuable new skill that can save lives!
