Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre

Northumberland County and their Economic Development Department have built a facility to meet the value-adding needs of small-to-medium-sized farms and businesses.

Easily accessed just off Highway 401, the facility provides the following resources:

  • rental of cooking, chilling, freezing and packaging/labelling equipment to the agricultural/business community on a cost-recovery basis
  • cold short-term storage capacity to accommodate both refrigerated and frozen items
  • meeting and (limited) office space
  • food-processing expertise – onsite support during production/processing periods from food-processing programs from various educational institutions (Durham and Loyalist)

The 15,000 sq. ft. facility is located in the municipally-owned Colborne Industrial Park and includes a solar-panelled roof as part of its unique physical presence.  Adjacent to the 401, but located in a rural community in response to the preference expressed through the Regional Business Retention and Expansion Project (BR+E), the location allows for a significant degree of profile.
