The Hammer Jewellery Studio School

Donna Hiebert is the founder of the Hammer Jewellery Studio School and a working artist and jeweller. She completed her BFA at NSCAD University in 1985 and worked in Nova Scotia until moving to Hamilton in 2016. Donna enjoys and is rewarded to share her knowledge, methods, and techniques making and designing jewellery with her students.. Classes are held in her bright, spacious and well equipped studio at the Cotton Factory, a vibrant and growing hub for creative professionals.

Deftly moving between projects widely varied in scale, technique, ideation, and media, Donna’s artwork includes intimate jewellery, large scale public sculpture, installation works, and poetry. Informed by intuitive revelation and inspired by sacred geometry and the pattern and form in the natural world, Hiebert gathers experiences, tools, worthy materials, off casts, friends, and words around her to begin her projects. She is best known for her monumental public sculpture, The Wave, on the Halifax Waterfront, commissioned in 1988, and beloved by generations of Haligonians and visitors alike.
