The Kaleidoscope Mental Health Support Society

In Tracy's Mental Health First Aid courses, she values fostering a safe(r) environment, drawing from the experience and expertise of the class participants, and encouraging an open dialogue conducive to learning, unlearning and relearning. We hope you come away from the course with both a greater understanding of how to support others in your life, as well as what mental health means for you.

Tracy teaches MHFA from the perspective of lived experience. She was diagnosed with a severe mental illness in 2008, which completely disrupted the trajectory of her life and who she thought she was as a person. She soon got involved in peer support initiatives where she got to meet people who had had experiences similar to hers, and she joined a speaker's bureau with a crew who spoke publicly about our experiences. The last thing she wanted to do was speak publicly about her experience, but it ended up being the gateway to living a more fulfilling and meaningful life. She grew a passion for talking about mental health (both her own and more generally), increasing mental health literacy, and ultimately building a community that is more accepting and supportive towards those who experience mental health concerns.

Tracy has experience as a peer supporter in many capacities. She has been involved with The Kaleidoscope Mental Health Support Society since 2010, co-facilitating peer support groups and she has been president of the organization since 2016. She has experience as a Peer Support Coordinator within a healthcare authority, as well as providing one-to-one peer support and research from the perspective of lived experience. She is currently in the process of completing a Master of Social Work.
