The Ottawa Guild of Potters
Populace is an installation of 9000 hand-built ceramic sculptures made by over 2000 Canadians as a monumental public art piece to celebrate Canada's 150th. Funded by Ottawa 2017 and Ontario 150, this project has been facilitated by volunteers throughout 2016 and 2017 from the Ottawa Guild of Potters, an organization in Ottawa that brings ceramics knowledge and product to the Ottawa community, helping new potters and professionals develop and sustain their craft. This special project has been the largest ceramic group installation the Guild has undertaken in its 42 year history. The Ottawa Guild of Potters also organizes "Great Bowls of Fire," a charity event involving the partnership of ceramisits making bowls, and restaurants making soup, to raise funds for the Ottawa Food Bank. The Guild also hosts two significant pottery sales a year - one in the holiday season and one in the spring - at the Horticulture Building at Landsdowne Park.
