Westlock Drama Society

Established in the fall of 1969, by past members including Alan Doherty, Doris Hugh, Beth Cameron, Daisy Boyd and E. Lorne Clapperton, the Westlock Drama Society (1970), performed Sumner Arthur Long's "Never Too Late" for three performances.  April 22nd, 23rd and 25th of 1970 saw the birth of a dedicated group of thespians here in Westock and since then they have come together to produce over 65 plays and musicals, all for the enjoyment and entertainment of the town and the surrounding counties and community.

Many of the first plays produced by the Westlock Drama Society were performed in the old Memorial Hall, a structure that no longer stands after being taken by a fire.  Funds from productions helped to build the current venue that the Westlock Drama Society performs in, the CATS Theatre in Westlock.  The Westlock Drama Society has also had various community partnerships including the Rotary Dinner Theatre and Dream Merchant Theatre.  A scholarship is given away every year by the Westlock Drama Society to those who excel and intend to contribute to the arts in some way with their Post Secondary Education.

In 1988 the Westlock Drama Society also became involved with Alberta Drama Festival, representing the Yellowhead Region.  There were many awards won over the years, especially when the group was highly active in the One Act Play Festival in the 90's and even hosted the event for it's 25th Anniversary in 1995.  In the Fall of 1994, along with the production of "Nunsense II", a piano was donated to the Westlock and District Community Hall.

"Acting Up" since 1970, the Drama Society hopes to rekindle the flames of the group once again in its 46th year!
