The Outer Space Institute and MDA invite you to take part in a lively discussion with Johann-Dietrich "Jan" Wörner, former Director-General of the European Space Agency, and moderator Ellyne Kinney (MDA) on the science-engineering-policy interface and new challenges for international cooperation.
The event will be held from 4:30pm – 5:45pm on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, in the Roy Barnett Recital Hall, located in the University of British Columbia Music Building.
Due to COVID-19, this year's lecture will be limited to 200 in-person guests. In-person guests will be required to wear masks in all in-door campus spaces.
Because space is limited, your RSVP is strongly encouraged to reserve a seat. Walk-ins are welcome provided space is available.
Speaker Bio
Jan Wörner is President of Germany’s National Academy of Science and Engineering. From 2015-2021, he was Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA). He chaired the Executive Board of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) from 2007 to 2015, and served as President of TU Darmstadt from 1995 to 2007. A civil engineer by training, Jan Wörner was previously Professor, Head of the Test Research Institute, and then Dean of Civil Engineering at TU Darmstadt.
Moderator Bio
Ellyne Kinney is a Director of Technology Strategy for the Geointelligence Business unit at MDA. Her expertise lies in Earth Observation Mission Development, Systems Engineering, and On-orbit Commission of Remote Sensing instruments. She was a key contributor to the On-orbit verification and calibration for three Hubble Space Telescope Science Instruments and led the On-orbiting commissioning of SkySat 4-7 for Google/ TerraBella SkySat Constellation.
