Description

Please join us at the 2017 Sport Durham Convergence where we will share, learn, grow partnerships and collaborate to advance sport tourism in Durham Region!

With 2019 Ontario Parasport Games planning underway, we look forward to learning more about parasport and how we can provide para-athletes with the best possible experience while they’re competing #InTheDR. We will also hear about the inspiring legacy of the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games and how to incorporate meaningful legacy plans into our events.

Our exciting roster includes:

  • Sport Durham update

  • Keynote address, Leading #Team88 - How Sport Helps Reconciliation, presented by Michael T. Cvitkovic, General Manager of the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG 2017)

  • 2019 Ontario Parasport Games update

  • Blind soccer try-it session led by Matt Greenwood, Executive Director, Pickering Soccer Club

  • The Para-athlete Experience interactive panel discussion featuring para-athletes including:

    • Dave Brown, para-sailor, para-skier and goalball player

    • Mike Frogley, Director and Head Coach, Wheelchair Basketball Canada Academy

    • Anthony Lue, para-cyclist

    • Christina Swett, former wheelchair basketball player

    • Rick Watters, para-sailor and boccia player

  • Sport Event Legacy Planning session presented by Cheryl Finn, Director of Sport Tourism for Tourism London and Chair of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) on behalf of the CSTA

  • (Tentative) Sport Trends in Durham student presentations with Ian Ellis, Professor, Durham College Sport Management and Durham College Business of Sport students

Tickets are $20 and include a light breakfast and lunch.

This year, we encourage you to dress in casual/athletic wear for comfort and the blind soccer try-it session. Layers are also recommended because of the cooler temperature in the fieldhouse.
