Description

The 5th Annual Public Health Symposium will take place on January 20th, 2017 and the theme this year will be Refugee and Immigrant Health. The Symposium will feature talks from two speakers, lightning talks from student presenters, and a poster session open to various disciplines. The Sympsosium will include a light lunch and go from 10am - 2pm.

We are happy to announce the speakers for the event will be:

Dr. Maureen Mayhew has over 25 years of experience working with refugees, immigrants, and First Nations populations. She is a clinical professor and physician at the BCCDC and a clinical professor at the School of Population and Public Health.

Dr. Martina Scholtens is a family practice physician who spent a decade working at a Vancouver clinic for refugee health. She has recently published a reflective account on her work with refugees entitled Your Heart is the Size of your Fist. Beyond writing novels, Dr. Scholtens continues to practice in the field and is currently a resident in the Public Health & Preventative Medicine program.

IPE points are availble for students who attend.
