Event description

Description

The ACJS is pleased to announce our 2019 conference community day, which will take place at Vancouver’s Peretz Institute for Secular Jewish Culture. The community day forms part of the association's annual conference in association with the Peretz Institute, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Concordia Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies, the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies, and the Vered Canadian Jewish Studies Program. The conference will provide a platform for exciting and original research on Canadian Jewish life, past, present and future.

We warmly invite the Vancouver community to attend our community day, free of charge, but space is very limited so advance registration is required.

This year's community day will feature a number of panels on topics ranging from Literature and Media Studies to Activism and Antisemitism. Following the day's panels, the ACJS will host a scintillating evening, with music by the Vancouver Jewish Folk Choir, a substantial snack, as well as the presentation of this year's Louis Rosenberg award to our esteemed colleague, Professor Norma Baumel Joseph. The day will end with a thought-provoking keynote address from Dr. Franklin Bialystok, Professor of History at the University of Toronto.

Food throughout the day will be kosher, with some vegetarian/gluten-free options.

There are two tickets for this event: one for the day's panels (9:00am-4:45pm), and one for the evening events (4:45pm-7:30pm). Please let us know if you will be attending the panels, the evening events, or both by registering for them at the top of this page.

If you'd like to renew your membership with the ACJS or start a new one, click here.
