This training is designed to prepare building professionals for the new NECB 2020 airtightness testing requirements

This training registration cost (not including travel and expenses) will be paid for by the federal government’s Code Acceleration Fund.

Course Summary:

This introductory, half-day in-person training session is designed to prepare building professionals for the new NECB 2020 airtightness testing requirements. Understanding these fundamentals is a critical skill for any professional looking to achieve Chapter 8 compliance by demonstrating minimized air leakage.

The objective of this session is to provide a clear and concise overview of airtightness, allowing you to confidently navigate new project requirements from design to completion. You will leave with a foundational understanding of what is needed from both a design and construction standpoint to achieve an airtight building, how airtightness tests work (including principles and procedures), and what is involved in planning for and executing a successful airtightness test.

This course will include practical case studies relevant to Part 3 buildings. By attending, you will gain the foundational insights needed to help your team mitigate risks, contribute to more energy-efficient buildings, and start planning for airtightness on your next project, keeping you ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.

Course Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, trainees will be able to:

1. Describe why airtightness is important.

2. List the requirements in NECB 2020 applicable to building airtightness.

3. Explain what design and construction practices can lead to achieving an airtight building

enclosure.

4. List the general planning and execution requirements of a compliant airtightness test.

5. Recall the general process of preparing for and performing an airtightness test.

Prerequisites:

It is recommended, but not required, that trainees have a fundamental understanding of building airtightness including air barrier system properties and design
