Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

There is much buzz about "fake news" recently. We are constantly bombarded with information and misinformation about serious topics such as climate change, vaccines, cures for diseases, and stem cell research. How can you tell fact from fiction, especially with regards to how science topics are reported in the media?

In this workshop, you will learn strategies on how to critically analyze what you read so you can be more informed when discerning science facts from spin.

Speakers:

Ms. Sara Mazrouei is a PhD Candidate in Planetary Geology at the University of Toronto and presenter for York Universe Radio.

Dr. Sophie Nyberg has a PhD in nanomedicine from University College London, and is a postdoctoral research fellow in regenerative medicine at Sunnybrook Research Institute

Dr. Shaalee Sone is an enthusiastic science communicator who is passionate about sparking the public’s interest in science by making it understandable and relatable. She created part of an award-winning, internationally-travelling stem cell exhibit and has organized community events to bring awareness to genetic screening.

Event is open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served.

Doors open at 5:30 pm
