Event description

Description

By popular demand, Starhawk returns to Sooke during a break in her permaculture fortnight at Our Ecovillage. Like last year's visit to town, she’ll offer a talk and Q&A session. Her address this time will be titled Vision, Hope and Strategy.

“My own feeling is that the business-as-usual forces, the centralized power Oilasaurus, is like a dying dinosaur, wounded and thrashing about," she told us in a recent email. "The question is how do we limit the damage it does on the way out? And also hold to a vision of what comes after?” We especially liked her closing line: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to Sooke. Great hospitality and a wonderful audience last year.” (The feeling is definitely mutual!)

Starhawk brings social justice, care of the earth and spirituality to a vision of how our societies can function for the benefit of all. She is the author of thirteen books on such topics as Goddess religion, earth-based spirituality, group dynamics and social permaculture, among them The Spiral Dance, The Earth Path, The Pagan Book of Living and Dying, and the novels The Fifth Sacred Thing and its follow-up City of Refuge.

Her documentaries (with director Donna Read Cooper) include Permaculture: The Growing Edge and the National Film Board of Canada‘s Goddess Trilogy.

Through her organization Earth Activist Training (EAT), Starhawk directs courses in permaculture and regenerative design grounded in earth-based spirituality and with a focus on organizing and activism.
