An introduction to Eating Disorders and providing support
Overview
An introduction to Eating Disorders and providing support
Our relationships with food and our bodies are complicated. Most often, these relationships are tied to other parts of our lives and the challenges we face, such as mental and physical health concerns, perfectionism, substance use, and life transitions (like starting university, having a baby or undergoing career changes). Living through a global pandemic, a turbulent socio-political climate while living in a world that glorifies certain bodies and eating/exercising habits hasn't made things easier.
In this presentation, Steve will debunk common myths about eating disorders and explore how these complex challenges are linked to race, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and body size. Attendees will learn how to recognize symptoms of disordered eating in themselves and others, and how to find support.
