Overview

Join us to read together and share your thoughts! North York Reading Group proposed one book as the discussion theme for each session.

Welcome to North York Reading Group! The group is established with the purpose to facilitate discussion on readings about society, history, environment, humanity and philosophy.

Speciesism is the conclusion Peter Singer gave to our attitude towards non-human animals. It seems that we have many many reasons to mistreat non-human animals but the author of Animal Liberation tells us that all of them are irrational bias. We have never been fair to non-human animals and our behavior toward them is no better than racism or sexism. The truth is many of our modern practices are unnecessarily cruel without even slight empathy to the sentient beings, but we have the power to change this.

This is a single session with first half hour giving a brief introduction to the book, and then discuss any comment / question / insight related to the ideas raised in the book. This will be a relaxed one and a half hour session without any prerequisite to join.
