Event description

Description

Wrongfully convicted of two murders and on death row for 30 years—this is the true story of Anthony Ray Hinton and the topic of our next Forward Thinking Speaker Series event. Mr. Hinton was released in April 2015 with the help of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), of which he is currently a Community Educator. Mr. Hinton was one of the longest serving death row prisoners in Alabama history and among the longest serving condemned prisoners to be freed after presenting evidence of innocence. Mr. Hinton is the 152nd person exonerated from death row since 1983.

Join us at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel as he tells his story, as laid out in his autobiography, The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row.

Tickets will go on sale for EPL cardholders starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24 for $10. There will also be limited $75 Preffered Seating tickets available. All proceeds from the event will support the Stanley A. Milner Library revitalization project.

The Forward Thinking Speaker Series reflects EPL’s rich history of taking risks, trying new things out and redefining the modern library. EPL is inviting thought-leaders from a variety of industries and around a variety of topics to share their insights, ideas, experiences and viewpoints, with the goal of helping us purposefully build better organizations, neighborhoods and communities.
