Overview

Supporting children with anxiety.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns in Canadian children today. While everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, children are often overwhelmed by these feelings.

Join Melanie Noble on April 9th as she walks us through how to recognize anxiety, how it affects the brain and the body, ways to help your students cope, and when simple anxiety has become a more serious problem. Together we will explore how attachment theory and co-regulation strategies can support children’s emotional well-being in the classroom. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the different attachment styles and how these influence a child’s response to stress and anxiety. Through active discussion, we will explore calming techniques tailored to various age groups, with a focus on supporting regulation, connection, and resilience.

By the end of this 90 minute workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the four primary attachment styles and how they influence student behavior and emotional regulation.
  • Understand how anxiety affects the brain and body, and recognize its signs in children of different ages.
  • Learn the role of co-regulation in helping children manage stress and anxiety in the classroom.
  • Apply calming techniques that are developmentally appropriate for Casa, Elementary, and Adolescent students.
  • Implement practical, relationship-based strategies that foster emotional safety and resilience.
  • Distinguish between everyday anxiety and signs that a child may need additional support.

Suitable for: Casa, Elementary, and Adolescent Guides

A recording of the event will be made available to all those who register to attend. Certificates of attendance will be provided to those who attend live or view the recording in its entirety.
