Do I need to register with a partner?

Accepted Answer

Registering with a partner is great, but don't worry, if you don't have a partner we'll have extra leads and follows and we encourage partner rotations.  We will also have on hand our experienced tango students to help out. Tango classes are a wonderful way to meet people and make friends.

Question 2

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Wear clothing that allows you to move freely & shoes that allow you to slide & pivot on the floor. Wear comfortable shoes with thin, flexible and relatively smooth soles, such as dance shoes & shoes that are secured around the ankle. No rubber soles & no street shoes on the dance floor please.

Will there be lessons following the introductory bootcamp?

Yes!  We will be continuing with a fall session at University of Alberta, starting on September 16th.  Please see our website for details:  www.casatangoedmonton.com

Am I too old to learn Argentine Tango?

Accepted Answer

No one is too old to learn to dance. As long as you can walk alone you can learn to walk together in an embrace.
Learning a new skill will keep you on your toes and has several benefits. It might take a bit longer but as long as you bring your curiosity and a positive attitude the tango will embrace

Does it help to have danced before?

Accepted Answer

Dancing Argentine Tango is like speaking a language. The first one is the hardest to learn. Everybody has his own learning curve. Knowing other dances can be helpful, but strong memorized movement patterns can get in the way of this improvised dance. Come and start your own tango journey with us.

Question 6

Do I need to be flexible to dance Argentine Tango?

Accepted Answer

NO. In social tango, you are walking together in an embrace to the music. Posing & acrobatics belong to stage tango. We focus especially on body awareness and the quality of the movement. This also can influence your flexibility in a positive way.

Question 7

Do I have to remember long sequences?

Accepted Answer

NO. Dancing Argentine Tango socially is improvisation to music. You’ll learn small patterns to navigate on the dance floor. 
Starting this way opens up the possibilities of freedom of improvisation to the music and within the constraints of the social dance floor.
