Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), Alberta Urban Municipal Association (AUMA), and Infrastructure and Asset Management Alberta (IAMA) are excited to bring you half-day asset management capacity-building workshops for elected officials and senior administrators! Through support of the Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) workshops will be offered free of charge.

This workshop is designed to be an introduction to asset management for elected officials, CAOs, and senior staff.

Although the workshop is open to all municipalities in Alberta, because it is an introduction, it will be most helpful for smaller municipalities or those with limited progress on implementing asset management.

Morning session (8:30am-12:00pm)
"I want a five-star experience for a two-star price": Setting and communicating levels of service (LOS)

Module 1— Define Levels of Service and the Connection to Asset Management

Module 2—Identify How to Set Levels of Service

Module 3—Effectively Apply and Communicate Levels of Service

  • Learning Goal: Incorporate Levels of Service into Decision-Making

  • Learning Goal: Monitor and Revise Levels of Service

Afternoon session (1:00pm-4:30pm)
"Weathering the Storm: Asset Management and Climate Change" and "RISK: How Asset Management Can Help!"

Climate Change:

Module 1—Identify Infrastructure and Service Delivery Vulnerabilities

Module 2—Identify How to Use Asset Management to Prioritize and Manage Vulnerabilities

  • Learning Goal: Identify How Asset Management is Used to Identify, Prioritize, and Manage Climate Change Risks and Vulnerabilities
  • Learning Goal: Identify How Asset Management is Used to Support Climate Change Mitigation

Module 1— Identify Risks in a Municipality

  • Learning Goal: Identify Municipal Risks to Service Delivery

Module 2— Identify How Asset Management Supports Municipal Risk Management

  • Learning Goal: Describe the Basic Process for Risk Management

  • Learning Goal: Identify Asset Management Tools That Support Risk Management

Module 3—Identify Council’s Role in Risk Management

  • Learning Goal: Describe Council’s Role in the Risk Management Process

The workshop is being offered at no cost to remove one of the financial barriers we know can prohibit participation in educational workshop opportunities for elected officials and municipal staff.

Registration and a light contiental breakfast will begin at 7:30AM in the at the Entrec Centre, Grande Prairie workshop to begin at 8:30AM and will run until 4:30PM. Please indicate in the registration form the municipality and position title of each participant.

Please bring a writing utensil and all other materials will be provided.
