Event description

Description

Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), Alberta Urban Municipal Association (AUMA), and Infrastructure and Asset Management Alberta (IAMA), are excited to bring you two-day asset management capacity-building workshops for municipal staff! Through support of the Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) workshops will be offered free of charge.

This workshop is designed to be an introduction to asset management for municipal staff only.

Although the workshop is open to all municipalities in Alberta, because it is an introduction, it will be most helpful for smaller municipalities for those with limited progress on implementing asset management. Case studies and exercises will be geared towards smaller municipalities with an appreciation that most staff carry multiple roles, and will provide actionable takeaways that you can take home and put to work tomorrow.

What will you get out of the workshop? You’ll understand what asset management is, and how to integrate this into your everyday work. You will gain an understanding of FCM’s Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP), and understand where you are on your journey and have a clear path to improve your asset management readiness. Participants will be provided an overview of existing data both within their organization as well as public resources, that they can use to kickstart their asset management plan development.

This two-day workshop is offered in five locations around the province. As municipal staff, you will be introduced to asset management through three modules with the following goals:

Module 1: Asset Management Awareness

  • Asset management terminology
  • How asset management can support organizational strategy and objectives
  • Key asset management concepts
  • Introduction to asset management frameworks, policy and strategies

Module 2: Asset Management Data Requirements

  • Overview of existing data and public resources that can support their asset management plan development
  • Overview of data they may need to collect, that may not be readily available, to enhance their asset management plan

Module 3: Basic Asset Management Plan

  • Key asset management decision making
  • Asset management objectives related to level of service
  • Asset management plans

The workshop is being offered at no cost to remove one of the financial barriers we know can prohibit participation in educational workshop opportunities for municipal staff.

Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 7:30AM in the Pomeroy Inn and Suites in Vermilion, workshop to begin at 8:30AM and will run until 4:30PM both days. Lunch provided. Registration is restricted to municipal staff only, please indicate in the registration form the municipality and position title of each participant.

Please bring a writing utensil and all other materials will be provided.
