What's the relationship to Literary Kaleidoscope?

Big Book Club continues the LitKal legacy. Over the course of 30 years, members read more than 200 books, took ideas further with nearly as many guest speakers and distributed more than $100,000 in scholarships to students in English and creative writing programs.

What books can I bring to donate?

We're hoping to gather exciting new releases for the next Big Book Sale . You can bring any Big Book Club title, or any good condition novel or literary non-fiction book published since 2020 . We'll receive your donation with thanks, and let flow through to the next lucky reader.

As a volunteer-run project we're not equipped to administer refunds. Proceeds go towards supporting emerging writers, so the money we raise helps support another form of literacy in our community.

We'll start off 2026 with another favourite LitKal presenter, acclaimed writer, critic, and storyteller Aritha van Herk !

Join us on Wednesday, January 21 for a tour through Elif Shafak’s bold new novel The Island of Missing Trees. This ambitious, multilayered story explores love, memory, and belonging across generations, set against the divided island of Cyprus where history and nature intertwine.

Come ready to read deeper, think bigger, and engage in lively conversation with fellow book lovers.

Coffee, tea and water will be provided.
