Bilateral Drawing Crew
Overview
Welcome friends,
This offering is a weekly drop in for folks who want to build up a bilateral drawing practice within community. Bilateral drawing is simply drawing with both hands at the same time. It activates both hemispheres of the brain and is also a settling crossbody practice that can help us regulate. Come get experimental with us, let go of perfectionism with art, process the unknown, release the unseen. Find out what is possible with a simple art practice, what you might feel? what might shift? what might you learn? what might you let go of? It is truly a magical experience that can unfold with bilateral stimulation.
What the session will include:
We will have a short check in at the beginning, 20-30 minutes of uninterrupted bilateral drawing time and a short check out. Encouragement to get experimental, to use different materials, in different spaces, sizes and surfaces. May or may not share music, feel free to play your own.
Materials:
-Any non-sentimental mark making materials; pens, pencils, crayons, pencil crayons, highlighters, markers, pastels, paint, charcoal etc.
-Paper of any kind, you can use recycled packing paper, kraft paper, paper table cloth, a cut open paper bag, a cardboard box, or your art book.
-Tape or clips or paperweights to hold your paper in place
-A flat surface, tabletop, floor, window, wall, art book.
I will offer suggestions for trying different things, holding your materials in different ways, how hard are you pressing, how much are you gripping, what does it feel like to push away or pull towards, to hold a certain thought while creating, to listen to music while making.
Take or leave what works for you.
These sessions will be very low pressure, with an attempt to create an accessible art space for all who may be interested. Come late, leave early, camera on or off. I will be showing my art making process on camera and love when community members show their individual styles as well, but there is never any expectation to do so.
