Overview
When: Every last Saturday of the month, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Where: University of Waterloo (Waterloo, ON)
Black Boys Code Waterloo hosts hands-on monthly technology workshops that spark curiosity, build real coding skills, and grow confidence. Each session blends fun projects with practical problem-solving, guided by supportive mentors and industry volunteers. We run Beginner and Advanced tracks side-by-side so every learner is challenged at the right pace.
What the kids are learning
Beginner Track (foundations)
- Computational thinking & logic (patterns, loops, conditionals)
- Block-based coding & game design (interactive stories, animations)
- Teamwork, presentation, and creative problem-solving
Advanced Track (build & apply)
- Python fundamentals (variables, functions, lists, debugging)
- Real-world mini-apps, simple data tasks, and API basics
- Web/robotics concepts (as available), clean code habits, versioning basics
Learning outcomes
By the end of each workshop, participants will:
- Create a working mini-project (game, app, or feature)
- Explain the logic behind their code and how they debugged it
- Collaborate by reading code, giving/receiving feedback, and presenting
- Gain confidence to tackle harder problems and keep learning at home
