About this Event

Keynote speaker Sheila Watt-Cloutier, Environmental, Cultural and Human Rights Advocate and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, is widely recognized for her influential work. She is the author of "The Right to Be Cold: One Woman's Story of Protecting Her Culture, the Arctic and the Whole Planet" and the TEDx Talk “Human Trauma and Climate Trauma as One.”

We invite you to explore the impacts of climate change, globally and locally, through our lived experiences and join efforts to address enhanced resiliency, and inspire action and hope for the future.

Hosted by CBC's Chris Walker, the evening will also feature:

Syilx/Okanagan captikwł (storytelling)

• The public launch of "Climate Projections Report for the Okanagan" - looking at how our climate is projected to change over the next 30-60 years and inform community response

• An expert panel discussion with Watt-Cloutier, Heather Deegan - Director of Healthy Communities with Interior Health Authority, Anna Warwick Sears - Executive Director of the Okanagan Basin Water Board , Denise Neilsen - Chair of the Okanagan Water Stewardship Council, Rob Osiowy - Wildfire Officer with BC Wildfire Service, and Gillian Aubie Vines with Pinna Sustainability Inc. and the Climate Projections Report author. Others include representatives from emergency response.

Walker will facilitate a panel Q&A, helping us better understand how various sectors are adapting locally to address climate change and discuss ways to enhance resiliency.

Following the panel discussion, you are invited to visit with representatives from:

  • Okanagan Collaborative Conservation Program and South Okanagan Similkameen Conservation Program
  • OBWB's Okanagan WaterWise
  • Okanagan Nation Alliance
  • Okanagan Xeriscape Association
  • Green Okanagan
  • Sustainable Transportation Partnership of the Central Okanagan
  • Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) Planning Services, Fire Services, and Waste Reduction
  • Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen

Seating is limited and tickets are required.

REGISTRATION & DOORS OPEN: 6:30 P.M.

EVENT BEGINS: 7 P.M.
