Our Story

Our church originally began in 1995 to serve the people of Toronto’s downtown core; it was then known as Cornerstone Urban Church, a partner church of Church in the City. Cornerstone began a dinner to feed the hungry and offer a place to belong in a safe community. The Regent Park Community Meals feeds 275 people weekly, almost entirely with volunteers. As Regent Park continues to be revitalized, we saw the desire of many to have a church to call their own. Church in Regent Park officially re-started Easter 2016.

What We Believe

Jesus

The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who was fully God and fully man. He was born of the virgin Mary and lived a completely sinless life. In his ministry he preached the gospel, performed miracles, and left his greatest work by dying on the cross for the sins of mankind. By his blood being shed he paid the price for the sin of mankind. He was raised bodily from the dead and was seen by the disciples and others, and is now in heaven on the right side of the Father. One day he will return from heaven for his church.

Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; Acts 10:38; 1 Peter 2:22; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Luke 24:39; Acts 1:9; Philippians 2:9-11

Salvation

Man was born into a sinful life and needs a saviour to save him. Salvation comes by having faith in Jesus dying on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. This comes first by grace and there are no deeds that any person can do to be saved. Those who are saved have turned from their sins and now have the witness of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 8:16; Luke 24:27; John 3:16

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit living inside a Christian. This happens once a person accepts Jesus as their Lord (master) in life. The Holy Spirit enables Christians to live a saved and sanctified life of power and most of all love. We also believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which was experienced in Acts and the first-century church. The baptism of the Holy Spirit enables the Christian to be a greater witness for Jesus.

Acts 2:1-4; Acts 1:8; John 1:12-13; Ephesians 1:13-14; Acts 8:14-16

The Church

The church is the body of Christ. It is the spiritual organization of God to reach the world, a corporate body that worships God, and a place for believers to be equipped and encouraged. We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in worship. The power of these gifts in signs and wonders assists in evangelizing the world. Coming together as the local church or assembly builds the body of Christians.

Ephesians 4:11-16; Ephesians 2:22; Matt 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-20; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 Corinthians 2:12-14; 1 Corinthians 14:12

Church in Regent Park is part of a nationwide fellowship of churches called the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC).
