Description

On Saturday November 4th, 2017, First Time for Everything will be holding their next event at One Loft Lounge located at College/Spadina. We are striving to raise $4K for Anduhyaun / Nekeenan (which means Our Home in the Ojibwe / Cree language), an organization that provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for Indigenous women and their families in Toronto. Anduhyaun is one of the oldest shelters in Canada, and we are hoping to generate a real impact by not only raising funds (100% of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Anduhyaun), but also awareness for an organization that strives to support the most vulnerable members of the urban Indigenous community in their efforts to maintain their cultural identity, self-esteem, and economic, physical and spiritual well-being. http://anduhyaun.org/

Common Ground, in an intimate venue, will bring together a diverse artist-music collaboration. In addition to exhibiting and auctioning artwork from OCAD artists, there is an incredible line-up of DJs/musicians*.

IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND...and would still like to show your support, please leave a donation through our Canadahelps fundraising page. 100% of proceeds to directly to Anduhyaun. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/first-time-for-everything-2/

*Ciel, born Cindy Li, is a producer, DJ, promoter, and radio programmer based out of Toronto, Canada. She currently runs two of the country’s most forward thinking party series (It’s Not U It’s Me and Work in Progress) and hosts a female focused radio show (where she only plays music produced by females) on n10.as.

Ciel has used every ounce of influence created by her career to advocate for the safety and presence of women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. Her undying efforts have significantly raised the safety standards of underground parties in Canada and have played a key role in the music community enforcing a 0 tolerance policy against individuals who have abused others.

With Red Bull Music naming her alongside acts like The Black Madonna and Marie Davidson, with her absolutely stellar performance in August at Toronto’s Boiler Room, and with a release on Shanti Celeste’s Peach Disks on the near horizon, it’s not a matter of how Ciel will break out, but simply a question of when.

*Evan Pang is a Toronto-based singer songwriter from northern Ontario. His Oji-Cree roots have helped shaped the message in his music which touches on the issues of residential schools, addiction and racism. He moved to Toronto to perform music and pursue a career in journalism. He recently performed at Dundas Square for National Aboriginal Day with a five-piece band and is in studio recording an EP to be released this winter. In journalism he has been able to work on several stories surrounding First Nations issues including a mini-documentary he shot and produced with Huffington Post Canada called the 'Children of MMIW' which followed the lives of two Indigenous women who lost their mothers.

*Fawn Big Canoe - Friendly DJ from Toronto, ON Canada. Musical selections include house of all forms, bass, classic soul, disco and everything in between. Fawn brings a sophisticated simplicity and effortless execution to the DJ booth that allow her audience to experience a full musical spectrum all while they dance themselves into a fever. Past bookings include FNL ROM Fridays at the Royal Ontario Museum, Pride Toronto, National Aboriginal Day at Fort York, Celebrate Toronto at Steam Whistle Brewery, Motown Party previously at the Drake Underground and Studio Bar, as well as Motown Party Chicago, Vancouver and London, Ont. plus a residency at Y2K also at the Drake Underground.

*juSt b - With just over 3 years on the DJ circuit, gigs at nearly every underground Toronto venue, plus an international and Montreal debut in March, juSt b has established herself as one of Canada’s busiest and most dedicated of musical curators. Her energetic, emotive sets, tight programming, and flare for connecting with her fans is the hallmark of a passion that runs incredibly deep. Having shared decks with the likes of Anjunadeep superstars Martin Roth & Cubicolor, plus Edu Imbernon, Sascha Braemer, Olivier Weiter, David Hohme, & Miss Melera, her sound blends deep, dark, sexy, melodic, edgy tech, prog, and house.

juSt b is 1 of 8 international residents of the Global Transmission Podcast series which won best new iTunes podcast in 2015 and she proudly launched her own monthly show called Undercurrents on the renowned Digitally Imported this past May. With that big milestone kicked off, she’s now focused on production and continually crafting unforgettable musical journeys on and off the dance floor.
