Begin a Journey of Renewal with Maria Karakosta-Humpich, MA, CMT, RSMET

Maria is a luminary in somatic psychotherapy, trauma resolution, holistic life coaching, and beyond. Maria’s academic foundation, a Master’s in Education Sciences and a Bachelor’s in Psychology, is complemented by her certifications as a Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (RSMET) and a Continuum Movement Teacher (CMT), positioning her at the vanguard of mind-body integration and healing practices. Furthermore, she is a family consultant, somatic life coach (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and psychotherapy-informed practitioner (NKUA).

Maria’s deep dive into the complexities of psychology was significantly advanced through her engagement with the Italian eCampus University program. This educational journey granted her access to cutting-edge insights in developmental psychology, neurophysiology, and a spectrum of related disciplines, enriching her holistic approach to therapy and human development.

Her exploration continued as she immersed herself in the existential therapy teachings of Irwin D. Yalom at the Institute of Relational and Group Psychotherapy in Athens, led by Stavros Charalambidis, Ph.D. This experience broadened her psychological expertise and deepened her capacity to facilitate transformative group and individual therapy sessions.

In the last decade, Maria has enriched her therapeutic practice with trauma resolution techniques informed by the polyvagal theory. Her ongoing participation in the Trauma Research Foundation’s Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies in the USA bridges the latest PTSD and developmental trauma research with clinical best practices, enhancing her ability to support her clients’ healing and resilience.

Maria’s approach transcends conventional therapy by advocating for a holistic integration of body, mind, and spirit. This innovative and respectful method offers personalized paths to healing, emphasizing the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and mental health. Her pioneering work in somatic approaches over three decades has established her as a leader in fostering mind/body harmony, advocating for a bottom-up strategy in trauma resolution that prioritizes bodily awareness and movement as gateways to psychological well-being.

Maria’s unique journey over two decades has woven together Eastern and Western methodologies, including dance, fitness, healing arts, trauma resolution (Peter Levine), hypnosis, NLP, therapeutic yoga, and meditation, establishing her as a master in her art. This diverse background has fueled her innovative approach to therapy, emphasizing the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit.

The pivotal moment in Maria’s career came in 2006 when she encountered Emilie Conrad and Continuum Movement®, which introduced her to new methodologies for supporting individuals under stress or undergoing life transitions. Through primordial breaths, sounds, and wave motions, Maria has offered more resounding support for clients and students, facilitating healing from past traumas and liberation from societal constraints.

Maria’s expertise also extends to massage and fascia therapy, where she employs a hands-on approach that integrates touch with breath and movement practices. This method supports recovery from chronic pain, deep fatigue, and stress conditions by promoting homeostasis, enhancing perceptual sensitivity, and fostering a redefined sense of self.

As a co-teacher and co-organizer of the Continuum Movement Teacher Training Program in Greece (2018-2020), Maria has imparted her extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and somatic practices to diverse international participants. Her dedication to somatic education is evident in her weekly classes in Continuum Movement, Continuum4Yoga, and Continuum4Fitness, which promote the wisdom of the living body as a key to navigating the complexities of modern life.

A significant aspect of Maria’s work is dedicated to empowering women to embrace the sacred feminine. This conviction is driven by her belief in the transformative power of reconnecting with one’s true nature. Through workshops and somatic life coaching, Maria addresses women’s unique needs, helping them rediscover their inherent strength and wisdom.

Maria’s holistic support extends from prenatal care to fostering independence in young adults, demonstrating her commitment to nurturing human development at every stage of life. Her work with pregnant women and children from fetal life to early childhood, as well as her support for teenagers and young adults in defining their life projects and navigating relationships, showcases her comprehensive approach to wellness and personal growth.

In Greek, English, and French, Maria’s transformative sessions, both online and in-person, invite exploration, healing, and growth. Her work is a testament to a lifelong passion for human development, offering a path to renewal and profound transformation for all who embark on the journey with her.
