Description
Doors open at 6:30, lecture begins at 7:00. Reception to follow.
Dr. Peter S. Shawhan will share the latest results from LIGO and speak about the expansion of the global gravitational-wave detector network and its connetions with other facilities, including orbiting spacecraft, versatile and powerful telescopes on the Earth, and huge underground neutrino detectors. Signals being detected by LIGO are enabling sensitive testing of gravity theories and starting to answer questions about the birth, evolution and death of massive stars.
