What do I need to pack?

Biodegradable sunscreen & insect repellent, swimsuit, sunglasses, a hat, extra cash, water bottle, toiletries, layers of light-weight clothing, sandals/suitable footwear, a headlamp/torch/flashlight, adaptor (if from UK/Europe), eye mask, blanket/scarf, journal, pen, items for the alter (optional)

Can we drink the tap water?

Yes, it is safe to drink tap water in Costa Rica unless you are in remote, rural areas.

Do we need to bring our own yoga mat?

Accepted Answer

Azul Hotel and Retreat will supply all the yoga mats and props required but you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer. You may want to bring an eye mask and a thin blanket/scarf for the breathwork sessions.

Is this retreat suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our retreat is suitable for those who have years of mental, emotional and spiritual development work and those just at the beginning of their journey.
No matter where you are on the journey this retreat is for those who are ready and willing to lean into that which is holding you back.

Is this a spiritual/religious retreat?

This is not a religious retreat and will support the deepening of whatever faith you follow. We explore deep spiritual truths that transcend religion.

Will there be WIFI?

Yes and no! Azul Hotel and Retreat does provide free WiFi in both public areas and guest rooms, however we invite you to disconnect from everything so you can reconnect with yourself.

Will I be able to drink at this retreat?

To further enhance and deepen your healing, this experience is intended as a dry retreat.

We will enjoy 3 nourishing meals per day, thoughtfully prepared with locally sourced, fresh, and eco-friendly ingredients.

Not a problem! Special dietary requirements can be accommodated for a small additional fee.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes, the minimum age requirement is 19 years of age.

The age range at past retreats has been from 19 to 60, and the feedback of the experience has been profound. No matter where we are within that range we have things in common that we all face regardless of our age differences.

What other optional activities are available?

Accepted Answer

Most days of the retreat schedule are full, allowing you to focus on yourself and your healing journey. However, some spaciousness for personal time will be built into the schedule for optional massage and exploration. An optional volcano day tour is being planned for February 16th. (Additional fee)

Can I arrive earlier or stay later than the group?

Azul Retreat can accommodate checkins one day ahead on Feb. 8 and checkouts until Feb. 17th, subject to availability at the time of booking. Additional fees apply. After you register for the retreat, email become@theothersideofaverage.com and let us know if you would like to book extra nights.

Can you tell me more about the location?

Our retreat location is in Playa Azul, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The closest international airport (less than 2 hours by bus) is to the north in the city of Liberia. Costa Rica's capital city, San José is 5 about hours away.

Question 15

How will I get to Playa Azul?

We will be organizing optional group transport, for an additional fee, from Liberia International Airport on Feb 9th around noon. Details to come closer to arrival date. For those choosing to find their own way to Playa Azul: we will be meeting at the retreat  hotel at 4:00pm on Feb 9th.
