Creating TV: Series Concepts (Class 1 of 6)
Event Information
About this Event
You’re intrigued with a character, idea or theme but how can you tell if it will make a good series? Maybe you have a drawer full of concepts, but which should you devote your time to now? Series Concepts starts at the very beginning: assessing a project to determine whether it might connect with audiences, appeal to buyers and fit market trends. But being sellable isn’t the only consideration. You should consider your career trajectory when choosing a new project. What’s currently in your portfolio of sample scripts? What story will this new one tell about you as a writer? You may also want to ask yourself if this is a world you want to live in for the next few months…. Or maybe years. We’ll end this session by discussing the first stages of developing your series concept. We’ll set some writing goals for the coming week so that you’ll be ready to dive right into thinking about your series’ characters in time for Developing Characters class on Wed June 24.
Format
1.5 hour classes taught on Zoom.
Mics-on Q&A for the first 5-10 minutes (as we wait for participants to assemble) followed by about 65 minutes of “lecture" with the final 15-20 minutes devoted to a moderated Q&A session.
Videos of the class will be made available for a limited time to registered participants for review.
Target Audience
Screenwriters, web series creators, university screenwriting graduates and industry professionals. These classes are not intended for beginners.
