CVGBs New Year's Dance Party w/ Devours, Dollhead, DJs Dee Bee & BiKirious
Overview
There are many events and festivities taking place in the Comox Valley on New Year's Eve, but there will be no better place to be your beautifully unique self than the annual CVGBs New Year's Eve Dance Party. Local music and art cooperative CVGBs is hosting this inclusive and unforgettable night of music, dancing, and general merriment. Queer friendly and welcome to everyone, the CVGBs New Years Eve dance party will feature two live acts: underground legend and purveyor of delightfully glitchy queer-centric electro-pop, Devours from Vancouver, (this time a duo with David Prowse of Vancouver's Japandroids on drums!) and the eclectic and energetic local/Vancouver electro-punk duo Dollhead. The event will also feature 2 fabulous local DJs - DJ BiKirious and DJ Dee Bee - who will keep the dance floor bumping before, between, and after the live sets. This event will be a celebration of what makes us unique, in the spirit of joy as an act of resistance.DEVOURS
Devours (they/them) is the DIY electropunk project of Vancouver-based musician Jeff Cancade. Devours, creates infectious and highly danceable DIY electropop. Devours recently performed to packed audiences at the WoodStove Festival and is a perennial favourite for live audiences. Across five acclaimed underground albums, including the recent Polaris Prize-longlisted Homecoming Queen, Devours has written confessional and confrontational electronic music about masculinity, body image, gay politics, and inner-city queer existence. They have toured Canada and the US, received coverage from Vice, CBC, Exclaim, and the Globe and Mail, and have performed at festivals such as SXSW, Treefort Music Fest, Up Here Festival, Purple City, Vancouver Jazz Fest, and more. Their celebrated fifth record Sports Car Era, was released in March 2025. This will be the first Comox Valley show with Devours as a duo. Jeff Cancade will be augmented on drums by David Prowse, one half of Vancouver's legendary Japandroids.

Two diverse DJs will be bringing their eclectic taste and inspiration to the show. This show will also mark the first live DJ set from local DJ BiKirious, whose genre and gender-bending approach to DJing will be friendly, fun, and unpredictable. Cumberland's DJ Dee Bee headlined Pride Week's Fruit Cup windup party and had the room bouncing and glowing start to finish.
The CVGBs New Year’s Dance Party will take place at the Comox Valley Curling Centre’s upstairs Rotary Banquet room, a growing cultural and community space.
