Cybersecurity Fundamentals
Overview
In this workshop, you'll be introduced to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, demystifying key concepts like phishing, malware, firewalls, encryption, and beyond.
Explore the essential tools and practices that help protect digital systems - both personal and professional - from today’s most common cyber threats. You’ll also gain valuable insight into responsible security behavior and how cybersecurity is shaping the future of work.
By the workshop's end, you’ll walk away with a foundational understanding of cybersecurity, and the confidence to explore it further as a potential career path or critical everyday skill.

- “I’m curious about tech and code in general”
- “I am a complete beginner when it comes to coding”
- “I have some coding skills but I’m looking to try my hand at something new!”
- “I have financial barriers that make it hard to pay for classes and training”
- “I’m not sure if I belong in tech— I wish I saw more people like me leading this industry!”
This event is open to all adults 18+, with a focus on supporting those from equity-deserving communities who continue to be underrepresented in the tech sector and in tech-enabled roles. These communities include those who identify as cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary people, as well as Black, Indigenous and Racialized people, newcomers and people from low-income communities.

What you need for this event:
- You must join with a laptop or computer for which you have administrative permissions.
- You may be required to download some free software. After you sign up we will email detailed instructions if you need to download anything.
