Overview

Join us for a History Lecture from Kathleen Ann González "A Beautiful Woman in Venice" sponsored by Dante Alighieri Society of Santa Cruz.

It’s time to redefine beauty. From writers to painters, courtesans to composers, boat racers to glassmakers, Venetian women overcame obstacles to achieve greatness. These women’s narratives are not only biographies but also stories of Venetian women’s milieu and place in history. Beauty lies so much deeper than just skin and hair and fashions. A Beautiful Woman in Venice proves that hidden within the history of this city of light shine stories of remarkable women who shaped Venice and paved the way for their sisters who followed. Their beauty lies not only in their faces and demeanor, but also chiefly in their talents, their words, their contributions to their communities, their families, their circles—making up the very fabric of Venice itself. Join Kathleen Gonzalez, author of A Beautiful Woman in Venice, for an engaging talk about the history of women in Venice.
