Jay Fuhrer, Menoken Farm

Soil health specialist, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Bismarck, N.D.

www.menokenfarm.com

Jay has boots on the ground the last 38 years working with cropping systems, grazing systems, cover crops and gardens. Jay also has an extensive background working with groups and entities such as soil and water conservation districts; national and international no-till organizations; watersheds; farm organizations; urban groups; and more. Recently, Jay spends his time at the Menoken Farm minimizing soil disturbance, adding soil armor, maximizing plant diversity, maintaining living roots in the soil and integrating livestock.

Kevin Elmy, Cover Crops Canada, Salt Coats, SK

Kevin is a farmer and cover crop expert from Salt Coats, SK. He is paving the way forward with his knowledge of cover crops and his low input perspective to agriculture. A presentation from Kevin will certainly make growers think outside of the box! He started farming in 1999 and after considering the poor state of the soil needed to make some changes. This began with corn grazing, short term alfalfa, winter cereals, legumes and led to cover crops in 2008.

Joe Wecker, Wecker Farms, Sedley, SK

Joe grew up on an organic farm in southern Germany. Now farming 11,000 acres with his family in Southeast Saskatchewan, he is using a Nutritional Farming system. This system is a holistic approach of balancing soil nutrients and biology while focusing on plant health and beneficial insects to raise a crop that is nutrient dense.

Joel Williams, Integrated Soils, ON

Joel Williams is an independent plant and soil health educator, consultant and presenter on soil biology, plant nutrition and integrated approaches of sustainable farming. Joel has worked with conventional and organic farms in Australia and Europe where he integrates soil chemical and biological assessments along with plant nutritional analysis as a joined-up strategy for farm management. Joel has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science specializing in crop and soil sciences and a keen interest in managing soil microbial ecology and plant & soil nutrition to optimize crop immunity, soil health and soil carbon sequestration. Joel lectures internationally and has a passion for teaching and sharing both scientific and practical knowledge on agroecological growing practices.
