Empathic Strain
Overview
Empathic Strain (Formerly Compassion Fatigue) - 3.5 Hours
Empathic Strain has been described as “the cost of caring” for others, which results in deep emotional and physical exhaustion. The work of helping requires health care professionals to open their hearts and minds to their clients, but it is this process which makes helpers vulnerable to being very affected by their work. Join us for this important topic. Topics of discussion will include:
- Vicarious trauma
- Warning signs that you may not be coping well
- Strategies for your workplace
- Self-awareness and mindfulness
- Coping strategies
- Strategies to balance life and work
Please note: Participants are expected to sign into the session 5 minutes before the start of the session.
It is recommended that participants test their systems before the start of the session, to ensure their technology will work. Joining the session with your microphone and camera on (if possible) is recommended to get the most out of each session.
You can join from your smartphone, laptop or tablet. Calling in on the telephone line is not recommended. A minimum of 6 participants is required in order to run a session.
