Event description

For the first time, CES-SK is offering the Essential Skills Series online. Through online reading, activities, quizzes, and moderated discussions the learner can work through the course at their own pace over ten weeks. The course will require approximately 2 hours of work each week, but the learner can log on from anywhere and at any time that is convenient for them.

Objectives: Participants will gain basic levels of knowledge, skill and appreciation with respect to the essential elements of evaluation, equipping them to enter and participate in the evaluation field and develop as evaluation professionals. By the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. Describe the role of evaluation in the program life cycle;

2. Explain common evaluation terms, functions, and approaches;

3. List the steps in planning and conducting an evaluation;

4. Describe how common social science data collection methods are used in evaluations;

5. Describe the value and use of project management concepts in evaluations;

6. Outline ways to support the use of evaluation findings and produce actionable evaluation reports; and

7. Recognize evaluation standards and ethical principles and identify their role in the professionalization of evaluation in Canada.

Estimated Time to Complete: 20 hours. Time must be allotted to each week, as the cohort will work through the material in modules and there will be weekly class discusssions on each weekly module.
