Exaudi
Overview
In a world still learning how to listen, EXAUDI, Latin for “hear us”, calls us to silence, reflection, and empathy. Chroma’s second concert of the season turns its ear to the voices that rise from loss, displacement, and the quiet resilience of the human spirit.
At its heart is Caroline Shaw’s luminous To the Hands, a modern reflection on suffering, displacement, and compassion that transforms a 17th-century sacred text into a meditation on how our hands can wound or heal. Alongside it are works by Jocelyn Morlock, Marie-Claire Saindon, and Andrew Balfour, music that echoes the same yearning to be heard, to belong, and to find peace amid turmoil, even in the darkest moments.
Through intimate harmonies and vast, soaring textures, the programme moves from mourning to mercy, from the solitude of a single voice to the unity of many. The result is an evening of profound listening, where each note becomes both a prayer and an answer.
