Exploring the Four Foundations: Expression

Expression is one of the key foundations in How Does Learning Happen?—Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years. It invites us to consider how children communicate their ideas, emotions, and understandings in diverse and creative ways.

Whether through words, movement, art, music, or play, children express themselves in ways that reflect their unique perspectives and growing sense of identity. As educators, we are called to listen deeply, observe thoughtfully, and create environments that honour and expand these expressions.
