Overview

This course examines the critical steps and decisions needed to ensure the success of new international ventures.

NOTE: The workshops provided by Invest Nova Scotia, in partnerships with Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) and Export Development Canada (EDC), are primarily available to businesses based in Nova Scotia. If your company is located outside of Nova Scotia and you wish to participate, you may be added to a waitlist for future opportunities. Priority will be given to Nova Scotia-based businesses.

Decide whether new international trade opportunities are viable, assess your company’s readiness to take advantage of them and determine whether the potential benefits outweigh the risks and costs. The Feasibility of International Trade course examines the critical steps and decisions needed to ensure the success of new international ventures. You will learn how to analyze your organizational readiness, identify promising opportunities, and decide if the potential outcomes fit with your company’s strategic direction and improve your bottom line.

This four-day course will take place on the following dates:

Day 1: Thursday, January 15, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Day 2: Friday, January 16, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Day 3: Thursday, January 22, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Day 4: Friday, January 23, 20265, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This course is virtual via Zoom. A link will be provided a week before the workshop start date.

Course facilitator: Leroy Lowe, PhD

Dr Leroy Lowe is a former Aerospace Engineering Officer and Project Manager who began his career in the Canadian Airforce. He then worked for Sparton of Canada as Director of Business Development where he recruited and managed a diverse network of agents, distributors and strategic alliance partners in over 20 countries.

For the past 25 years he has been a full-time faculty member in International Business at the Nova Scotia Community College and an active international business development consultant. In that capacity, he has helped many small-to-medium sized businesses in many sectors with all aspects of exporting. He has also conducted a wide variety of training for companies and trade specialists at World Trade Centers in multiple cities in the Unites States, Canada, Mexico, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Cyprus, and Indonesia. He is a Senior Consultant in Trade Education, for the Forum for International Trade Training, and the founding President of two NGOs that are focused on cancer and neuroscience.

Dr Lowe has a Bachelor of Science degree, a Diploma in Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Adult Education, an MBA, and a PhD. He is also a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) and an International Chamber of Commerce Certified Trainer of Incoterms®2020.
