Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care
Overview
This 6-week standardized curriculum, is based on 'A Model to Guide Hospice Palliative Care, 2002,' with a focus on Domains of Issues Associated with Illness and Bereavement. Starting this year the program will be delivered through synchronous and asynchronous classes through Brightspace, an online learning platform, to better support students.

Course Breakdown:
Week 1: January 20, 2026, 5:00pm - 8:00pm (online class)
Week 2: January 27 , 2026, 5:00pm - 6:00pm (self-directed learning)
Week 3: February 3, 2026, 5:00pm - 6:00pm (self-directed learning)
Week 4: February 10, 2026, 5:00pm - 8:00pm (online class)
Week 5: February 17 , 2026, 5:00pm - 6:00pm (self-directed learning)
Week 6: February 24, 2026 5:00pm - 8:00pm (online class)

- Dying, Death and Hospice Palliative Care
- Disease Management
- Physical Issues
- Psychological/Spiritual Issues
- Social/Practical Issues
- End-of-Life Care and Death Management
- Grief, Loss and Managing Occupational Stress
All materials are available online via the Brightspace D2L platform. There are no longer hardcopy resources to be picked up in-person. The course is offered completely virtual and login credentials will be emailed directly to each registrant.
Limit 25 participants per class. First come first serve.
**Payment is non-refundable or transferrable. Please input your contact information, correctly. Please note that all three online classes are mandatory. Not participating in one class, will not allow you to pass the course.**
**Must have access to a computer and be able to navigate online.
These classes are facilitated by a local or regional professional with teaching experience and expertise in the field of Hospice Palliative Care. Classes are offered several times a year in Scarborough.
***Please note*** 'Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care' is a PRE-REQUSITE COURSE for CAPCE (Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education - for RPNs, RNs, NPs, and other advanced care clinicians), as well as APPS (Advanced Palliative Practice Skills - for PSWs and Health Care Aides).
