FVCC Presents Trauma Informed Law & LAMP Training: Neurobiology of Trauma
Overview
The Wood Buffalo Family Violence Coordinating Council (WBFVCC) presents Lori Gill’s “Trauma Informed Law: Neurobiology of Trauma and LAMP Training Following Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence”, a two-day, cross-disciplinary training designed for law enforcement, advocates, mental health professionals, and prosecutors.
Participants will be provided with lunch, refreshments, and light snacks throughout both days of training.
Please note that Day 1 can be attended as a standalone session for those unable to attend both days.
This session explores the neurobiology of trauma and introduces LAMP strategies that enhance trauma-informed responses for individuals impacted by sexual assault and interpersonal violence. Participants will gain insight into the neurological, physiological, cognitive, and emotional effects of trauma.
Training topics include how trauma influences memory, speech, and recall, as well as best practices for conducting interviews and promoting emotional regulation in survivors. The evidence-based LAMP curriculum, funded by the Office for Victims of Crime, will be delivered across both days. Participants are encouraged to attend Day 1 before Day 2 to optimize learning outcomes.
Key learning objectives:
• Understand the prevalence and characteristics of sexual assault and interpersonal violence
• Learn how trauma affects brain functioning and memory processes
• Examine the relationship between neurobiology and survivors’ emotional and behavioral responses

• Recognize the personal impact of working with survivors, including vicarious and secondary trauma
