"Hate/bias crime" is a broad legal term that encompasses a diversity of motives, perpetrators, victims, behaviours, and harms. Research has identified individuals and groups that are at a particular risk of hate/bias crime victimization, including Indigenous peoples and those targeted because of race, religion, ethnicity, national orientation, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or an intersection of more than one of these identities. Hate crimes may be directed at physical, symbolic targets (such as a mosque) or at individuals or groups of people.

Hate/bias crimes affect not only individual victims, but also the larger community, and can have consequences that reach far beyond a specific incident. They can cause trauma, fear, retaliation, and can foster community unrest. These crimes send a message of rejection towards both the target of the crime and their community. Together, we are stronger than hate.

Come learn how hate-motivated incidents are affecting our community, and how we can all stand up for hate. Don't miss out on this important event!
