He Did Not Conquer - Benjamin Franklin's Failure to Annex Canada
Overview
Before Donald Trump in 2025, before James Madison in 1812, Benjamin Franklin had designs on Canada. He travelled to Montreal in 1776 to persuade the Canadians to join the American Revolution. It was only one of his many attempts to make Canada American. Madelaine Drohan will talk about how he rationalized that desire, what he did about it, why he failed, and why the events of 250 years ago have an impact on bilateral relations today.
The event will include:
- Author Presentation: Insights from the book.
- Interactive Q&A: Ask your questions and join the discussion.
- Book Signing: Meet the author and get your copy signed.
Deepen your understanding of North American history with the Montreal's chapter of the Canadian International Council. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
