Healing From Emotional Abuse & Gaslighting — Self-Trust Recovery (Workshop)
Overview
Emotional abuse and gaslighting are subtle but deeply harmful forms of psychological manipulation. They can erode self-esteem, distort reality, and leave survivors doubting their own feelings, memories, and judgment.
This workshop, presented by Latincouver, validates women’s lived experiences and offers practical strategies to rebuild confidence and self-trust.
For family members and friends, it offers guidance on how to support a loved one without minimizing the abuse, blaming them, or pressuring them to respond in a certain way.
Together, we will explore:
- What emotional abuse and gaslighting look like in real life
- How psychological manipulation impacts self-image and decision-making
- Why survivors often feel confused, guilty, or “too sensitive”
- Strategies to rebuild self-trust and confidence
- How to support someone experiencing emotional abuse with empathy and care
This is a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed space. You are welcome whether you are attending for yourself or to better support someone you care about.
Facilitator: Alix Mintha
Alix Mintha (she/her) is a researcher, facilitator, and support worker with the YWCA specializing in gender-based violence resistance, trauma-informed education, and equity research. She holds a Master’s in Anthropology from UBC, where her research examined discrimination in lesbian asylum claims and the failure to recognize lesbians’ experiences of sexual violence as persecution.
Her work highlights how these forms of misrecognition contribute to retraumatization and led to the creation of guidelines aimed at reducing bias in lesbian refugee hearings.
Alix also facilitates Flip the Script at the North Shore Women’s Centre, a leading evidence-based sexual violence resistance program for self-identified teen girls. She brings years of experience in facilitation and empowerment education and is deeply committed to advancing gender justice and supporting survivors in rebuilding self-trust and confidence.
