About this event

About the Health Quality Journal Club

The HQ Journal Club is a event that brings together academics, health professionals & the wider community to engage with topics related to health quality including risk, patient safety & quality improvement. Each meeting is led by a guest editor who has selected that month's journal article for review and discussion. This year in particular, journal club activities provide us with a virtual connection to our colleagues and to students and increase the exposure of those that attend to the Health Quality global network.

May Journal Club Information

Dr. Jennifer Medves is a Professor in the School of Nursing with a profound interest in better health for all Canadians.

Join us as we engage in a lively scholarly discussion with Dr. Jennifer Medves, and her selected reading on the “Synesis: The Unification of Productivity, Quality, Safety and Reliability”. Participants may be interested in reviewing the short video on YouTube called Beyond Safety II recorded at a conference on August 30th 2020. Dr Hollnagel explains why he does not believe the concept of Safety III provides enough guidance for those involved in quality improvement. He presents the four constructs of productivity, quality, safety and reliability as components of Synesis.

Selected Reading: Hollnagel, E. (2020). Synesis: The Unification of Productivity, Quality, Safety and Reliability. Routledge.

Register for the event to receive the zoom link, YouTube link and the download link for this month’s selected reading!
