Hey there! Ready to dive into the world of growing just about anything? This online event brings MIT's amazing course right to your screen, hosted by the Ottawa Node. Whether you're a newbie or a pro, this is your chance. We are excited to share an early announcement that a new edition of How To Grow (Almost) Anything (HTGAA) will be launching this coming January, and the Ottawa HTGAA node will once again be participating.

HTGAA is a free, globally distributed course featuring lectures and discussions led by well-known and influential researchers, practitioners, and pioneers in the fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology, and related domains. The course brings together an international community of learners, while local nodes organize in-person discussions and laboratory activities.

The Ottawa node is one of only a small number of HTGAA nodes worldwide, and we are proud of what our local community has accomplished. Last year, 9 committed listener-students successfully completed the course and graduated with an official HTGAA diploma signed by world famous professors like Prof George Church.

If you’d like to explore last year’s course materials, you can find them here:

The Ottawa HTGAA node is hosted by the Ottawa Bio Science Club, which provides an important community and organizational home for the program:

Looking ahead to this year, we are especially excited that discussions are underway for additional funding opportunities, in addition to the Twist DNA order program that became available to HTGAA participants last year. As always, local laboratory activities will be organized for a subset of the course, depending on participant interest and available funding.

If you think you may be interested in enrolling this year, we would love to hear from you in advance. Early expressions of interest help us plan local activities, lab sessions, and funding needs.

Last year there were about 1400 applicants for the course and we expect a similar number this year. A part of the registrants will choose to only attend the lectures and not complete the homework.

We also kindly ask that you share this news with friends, colleagues, and students who may be interested in biology, biotechnology, or hands-on learning at the intersection of science and engineering. HTGAA thrives on curiosity, commitment, and community, and we would love to see new faces join us this January.

Warm regards,
