IDIBC Annual General Meeting 2021

The 2021 IDIBC Annual General Meeting will once again be hosted online. This year, IDIBC is thrilled to have Melina Scholefield give a thought-provoking and inspiring presentation to kick off our 2021 Annual General Meeting. This presentation is very timely as IDIBC launches our 2021-23 Strategic Plan to elevate members, future leaders, and the profession. IDIBC shares a common goal with allied professions and organizations that seek to make impactful lasting change.

Registration for the 71st Annual IDIBC AGM closes on Friday June 4, 2021.

RAIN CITY STRATEGY

A presentation by Melina Scholefield, P.Eng.

Melina will share Vancouver’s ambitious and award-winning Rain City Strategy, discuss her team’s approach to transformation, and review leadership lessons learned throughout the process. Increasingly, major urban centres are facing significant challenges related to urban water management. There is an urgency to adapt and transform our urban planning and infrastructure towards more holistic and integrated approaches to better meet imperatives around climate change, water quality and ecosystem health, equity, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and affordability. Complex issues that call for transformation are as much leadership challenges as they are technical challenges.

Her presentation will delve into the inclusive leadership needed to collaborate and engage with other professionals and stakeholders to advance long-term positive change. Melina will highlight her leadership experiences and offer a range of strategies for firm leaders and future leaders to shift mindsets, drive cultural change, mobilize support systems, co-operate and innovate!

BIO

Melina Scholefield, P. Eng.

Melina is a professional engineer with over two decades of public and private sector experience. She has a long-standing dedication to sustainability and innovation in the municipal sector, leadership development, and collaboration across disciplines. Melina is Manager of Green Infrastructure Implementation for the City of Vancouver. She and her team are leading City’s ambitious and multi-award-winning Rain City Strategy, a cross-departmental green rainwater infrastructure and urban rainwater management initiative. In 2020, Melina was named Water Steward of the Year by the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association for her impact within the Canadian water industry. She is also a 2021 nominee for the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Environmental Sustainability.

Before taking on this new role, Melina was engaged in the private sector in the field of green buildings, both as a construction management consultant and a Built Green certified residential builder with a special interest in passive house design and construction methods. Previously, Melina worked for nearly 11 years with the City of Vancouver in transportation planning and sustainability. As Manager of the City’s Sustainability Group, Melina’s portfolio included advancing the Greenest City goals as well as climate protection, renewable energy, climate change adaptation, green building programs.
