Improving Voice and Presentation Skills for Instructors Program

Overview

Participants will explore the performative aspects of public speaking and learn how to apply them to enhance engagement in the classroom.

Participants will meet once a week over for five 3-hour sessions. This activity-based program features a series of four short presentations, each designed to support the development of key voice and presentation skills. These presentations serve as a practical framework for integrating essential techniques, including: Volume, diction, emphasis, pausing, connection, reframing, calmness and confidence.

Through the delivery of presentations, participants will:

-Strengthen their sense of confidence and self-assurance;

-Demonstrate vocal volume and clarity Employ enhanced diction;

-Display physical elegance and appropriate forms of physical gesture;

-Reflect on how various performative skills contribute to listener comprehension and engagement;

-Deepen the awareness of their impact of performative techniques through peer and instructor feedback.


Sessions will be held 9am-12pm in-person in West Mall Centre 1384. The session dates go as follows:

-January 21
-January 28
-February 4
-February 11
-Feburary 18
